Finance Minister: Hungary does not accept migrant quotas being forced on member states
The European Union’s new asylum package would fine countries that refuse to accommodate migrants 20,000 euros per migrant.
The European Union’s new asylum package would fine countries that refuse to accommodate migrants 20,000 euros per migrant.
Gergely Gulyás said the fact that the legislation had passed “with only a 55-56% majority in the EP where 70-80% of lawmakers are pro-migration” showed “how extremely bad the proposal”...
EU's narrowly approved migration pact has sparked controversy, challenging the bloc's unity and approach to human rights.
Hungary has been protecting the Schengen borders and the external borders of the EU for 9 years.
“The migration package will open Europe’s gates wide before illegal migrants,” Balázs Hidvéghi said.
Bence Rétvári said the EU was also planning to launch “a pro-immigration campaign”.
Balázs Hidvéghi said the new pact would allow illegal migrants to enter EU territory as it bans processing asylum applications outside the bloc.
György Bakondi noted that a total of 355,000 migrants had come to Europe on the three main migration routes last year, a record number since 2016.
In a "crisis," a "second quota" would be introduced, from which there would be no escape and which would make it compulsory to take in migrants.
“The Brussels elite has long turned a blind eye to the real, everyday problems of European people,” Balázs Orbán said.
György Bakondi said the EU approach to allow migrants into the bloc’s territory to await the assessment of their asylum applications “after they have crossed 6 to 8 safe countries” was “mistaken”.
The prime minister noted that he had tried to persuade the other member states over eight hours not to start accession talks with Ukraine as “that would be a mistake”.
“Everybody is free to decide whom they want to live together with” while controlling the bloc’s external borders is the EU’s obligation, Gergely Gulyás said.
